Why I Volunteer

Why I Volunteer

Richard Seabrook who Volunteers for Riverside Housing:

It's been just over a year now since I came to see you in the volunteer centre and you were able to advise me on the various types of volunteer work that are available and guide me accordingly.  It was thanks to you that I found a volunteer position with Riverside Housing where I help out with some of their local work clubs.

Well I have been volunteering for Riverside for just over a year now and love working with both clients and staff.  It's very rewarding work and I'm sure that whatever the clients get out of it goes double for me.  A few weeks ago I found out that myself and Mel, my fellow volunteer, had been nominated for a Riverside Volunteer of the Year award.  I felt very proud to have been nominated for this and was even more surprised when I found out we'd actually won the award!

I've been part of various incentive schemes in different jobs over the years but I can honestly say that this award means more than any of those and I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to you for setting me on the path to making this possible.  All I wanted was to do some good in a community that has provided me with a lot of support.  I never expected to get an award for it but it just goes to show you what can be accomplished if you take that little step to give something back.

I have attached a picture of the award which now has pride of place on my mantelpiece.  Thank you once again for helping me to make a difference.
