St. Helens Community Transport operates across the whole of the St. Helens area. We utilise existing and new resources to provide transport to meet unmet needs and improve and increase the travel horizons of local communities and groups. Community Transport schemes operate passenger carrying vehicles under Section 19 of the Transport Act. Section 19 Permits allow organisations to operate vehicles for the following uses: Education & Training; Religion; Social welfare; Recreation; or Other activities of benefit to the community such as links to work and food A charge can be made for the use of the vehicle; however this must be on a non-profit making basis to cover the cost of vehicles, maintenance, drivers, fuel, etc. The only other regulations are that vehicles must be safe, legal, fit for the purpose intended and inspected to PSV standards. There are many different groups of people in St. Helens that we feel will benefit from membership of St. Helens Community Transport, which is free: Community Groups; (any constituted body) Tenants & Residents Associations; Churches & Religious Groups; Local Charities & Voluntary Sector groups; Clubs, societies and other membership organisations. It’s simple, if you need transport for almost any reason we can help, and with the support of the other community transport operators on Merseyside we are big enough to cope with just about anything. Membership of St. Helens Community Transport is free to any group in St. Helens who feel that they may have transport needs that are not being met by existing provision, just give us a call. If your interested speak to Mark Arnold the Chief Exec of St. Helens Community Transport, or invite him to speak to your group, he is here to help. As well as providing accessible and affordable transport solutions to groups in St. Helens we can offer volunteering opportunities and the ability to access training. If you or your group are interested in getting a MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) Certificate we can organise that (standard or accessible). We also train MPV Drivers to full certification and PATS (Passenger Assistant Training Scheme). We also have opportunities for anyone interested in volunteering whether that is driving or administration. If you are 21 or older and have a full driving licence issued prior to 1997 you could become one of our volunteer drivers
